Julia Fiona Roberts was born in Atlanta on the 28th of October, 1967 as the daughter of Betty Lou Bredemus and Walter Grady Roberts. She belongs to the Robertses' fourth generation who reside in the Atlanta area, starting in the family of her grand-father John Pendleton Roberts a farmer. She inherited her father's interest in the theater at an early age. When he was a student of Emory University, he performed in several productions in Atlanta. He joined the Air Force in 1953 and, while located in Biloxi Mississippi was cast in a military production that included Betty Lou Bredemus who was part of the air force. The couple married in 1955. Their first child Eric Anthony was born in 1956. Walter along with his wife resigned from the military in the year 1957 when they enrolled Walter as a student at Tulane University. In 1960, the couple moved in Decatur Georgia where Walter began working with Atlanta's Academy Theater and the Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio. Walter along with Betty Lou produced a Saturday morning show on local TV specifically for children known as Bum Bum and His Buddies in 1964. They also made a living from it. In 1964 Betty Lou and Walter founded the Actors and Writers Workshop. The workshop lasted six years. In 1965, they welcomed two new children: Lelisa Billingsley and Julia Billingsley.
